FEMA disaster recovery center to open at Provident Bank Stadium Center to guide residents seeking assistance; residents urged to confirm FEMA representatives identity as they visit homes

(September 2011)

New City, NY - County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef today announced
that FEMAs disaster recovery center will open beginning on Saturday,
Sept. 10, 2011 at Provident Bank Baseball Stadium, 2nd floor community
room, 1 Provident Bank Park Drive, (off Pomona Rd) Pomona, NY 10970.
The center stands ready to help residents affected by Hurricane Irene
who need assistance in filling out paperwork or have questions with the
application process. The center will be open seven days a week from 8
a.m. - 8 p.m.

Countless residents were affected by Hurricane Irene that ripped
through our region last month, said Vanderhoef. Although many
lost belongings that cannot be replaced, we hope residents will take
advantage of the assistance that FEMA and the other organizations are
providing to us all at one location.

The recovery center will guide residents who may need help with the
application process and wish to speak with someone face to face.
Residents who have already registered for assistance, by calling FEMA at
1-800-621-FEMA or visiting its website at www.disasterassistance.gov,
are encouraged to visit the disaster recovery center to see how their
registration is progressing. If any contact information changes,
residents are asked to call FEMAs Help Line (1-800-621-FEMA).

Additional organizations set up at the disaster recovery site include:
the New York State Dept. of Labor, the Small Business Administration and
a team from Mitigation that will help residents make the most of their
flood insurance program and review damages due to mildew and mold.

For other storm recovery information, please call Rocklands
Information and Referral call center, Information Rockland, at
845-364-2020 or visit its website at www.informationrockland.com. Hours
of operation for the call center are Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Representatives from FEMA have already begun visiting residents who
have registered with FEMA requesting individual assistance. Residents
should be cautious about letting unfamiliar visitors into their homes,
even though they may introduce themselves as inspectors. Inspectors are
required to display their picture identification badges at all times.

In order to verify the inspectors' credentials, it is imperative that
residents request the inspector to provide their registration case
number that was provided to them during the registration process, as
well as the inspector's identification number.

Authorized FEMA inspectors will only confirm personal detailed
information that has been provided previously during the registration
process. If additional verification of the inspector is necessary,
residents may contact the FEMA Help Line at 1-800-621-FEMA.
